Back in 1913, the students of Georgia Tech -- a school known for its engineering program -- engineered what now stands as a landmark.
More than a century after it was built by Georgia Tech’s student body,Bobby Dodd Stadium at Historic Grant Field is the oldest on-campus stadium in NCAA Division I-A football. But as the school notes on its website, those students from 1913 would barely recognize the stadium today.
“Not only has the skyline around the stadium changed dramatically,” the school says, “but the facility has steadily grown and improved during its rich history.
The changing skyline has only added to the attractiveness of this venerable venue. Now, several Atlanta office towers create a picture-worthy backdrop for Bobby Dodd Stadium. That modern skyline almost single-handedly puts Georgia Tech’s stadium squarely in the No. 1 spot on our list of the 8 Most Picturesque Football Stadiums in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).
“The view of the downtown skyline is breathtaking,” one reviewer of Bobby Dodd Stadium wrote on TripAdvisor.
Another TripAdvisor reviewer raved: “The stadium is in the heart of Atlanta on the Georgia Tech campus and surrounded by a cathedral of tall buildings.
With Bobby Dodd Stadium at the front of the pack, here’s our list of the 8 Most Picturesque Football Stadiums in the ACC. In reviewing all of the ACC’s football stadiums, we considered the view from a stadium’s seats, putting emphasis on skylines and natural scenery.
Why we like it: At Bobby Dodd Stadium, the Atlanta skyline steals the show.
