Macy’s, the high-end department retailer, is notorious for sponsoring the annual Thanksgiving Day Parade. The iconic event is filled with entertainment groups, themed floats, and the giant parade balloons that float over New York City.
The curiosity of our internal research team at LawnStarter led us to take a deeper look into what it would look like if the Macy’s Day Thanksgiving parade came to Austin.
Each year, 3.5 million spectators fill NYC to watch the parade.
That's
the population of Austin
The attendees could fill
UT Football Stadiums
When filled, the iconic balloons take up1.3 million cubic feet of space.
You would need
sets of balloons to fill the Texas State Capitol
or
sets to fill the Frost Bank Tower
or
parades to fill The Austonian
It takes 2.2 million gallons of helium to fill the balloons.
That's
standard balloons
It would take
parades worth of helium to fill Barton Springs
Macy's is the second largest purchaser of Helium in the US, behind only the US Government!
The balloons take up 1.4 million square feet of ground area.
You could fit
on the surface of Lake Austin
The parade route spans 2.65 miles.
If the Macy's Day parade came to Austin, it would span from the State Capitol to S. Congress and Oltorf.
