AUSTIN, Texas (Nov. 30, 2021) — Austin-based LawnStarter, which connects customers with lawn care and other outdoor services providers, announced today that Austin serial entrepreneur Rob Taylor has joined the company’s board of directors.
Taylor is co-founder and former CEO of Austin-based Convey, which was acquired for $255 million in September. Convey powers direct-to-consumer delivery experiences for more than 2,000 of the world’s largest brands. Taylor is now president of Convey by project44, which acquired the company.
Like LawnStarter, Convey was founded in 2013. Taylor met LawnStarter co-founders Steve Corcoran, Ryan Farley and Jonas Weigert when LawnStarter was part of the Techstars Austin business accelerator. Taylor served as LawnStarter’s mentor at Techstars and even invested in the company.
“Having watched Steve, Ryan and Jonas grow LawnStarter into what it is today, I am eager to help LawnStarter reach even greater heights. The market opportunity for on-demand outdoor services like those offered by LawnStarter is substantial, and I want to help LawnStarter capture an even bigger piece of that market,” Taylor says.
Before Convey, Taylor was president of BlackLocus, an Austin-based provider of data-driven retail pricing tools. Home Depot acquired BlackLocus in 2012.
Prior to that, Taylor was chief operating officer, executive vice president and general manager of TrueCar, a Santa Monica, California-based automotive pricing and buying platform that completed its IPO in 2014.
Taylor’s appointment to the LawnStarter board comes on the heels of its acquisition of San Diego-based competitor Lawn Love in August.
“Rob is joining the LawnStarter board at a pivotal time for the company,” says Farley, LawnStarter’s chief marketing officer. “He has been an amazing mentor for us through the years.”
“With the acquisition of Lawn Love, we’re just getting started disrupting the $500 billion home services market, and Rob’s vast experience guiding companies in growth mode will help us as we continue to scale,” he adds.
