WorkWave is cloud-based field service management software. It’s a feature-rich industry leader but is also expensive and receives mixed reviews. We demoed one of WorkWave’s products and researched reviews of others to give you the scoop on their features, pricing, and user experience.
What we found: Both the mobile and web apps include tons of time-saving features, but the mobile app has a much more modern design. Unfortunately, a lot of the software’s features require additional fees.

WorkWave Key Features
WorkWave offers several different software solutions designed to manage different industries:
Software Solution | Industry |
PestPac | Pest Control |
Real Green | Green Industries |
WorkWave Service | General Field Service Industries |
TEAM Software | Cleaning, Security, Facility Management |
I demoed PestPac for a small pest control business. Although the mobile app is pretty snazzy, the web application looks like it was built in 1992.
Size only matters with fonts; unfortunately, the web app uses a small one. So I asked the representative if the font size is customizable, and he said no. WorkWave isn’t investing much in PestPac’s design or ease of use. But I will show you the highlights:
Customer Management
WorkWave comes with a CRM, and its functionality includes:
- Customer database
- Invoicing
- Creating service bundles
- Three-month calendar view
- Customer history log
- Callback tracking
- Recurring services
- Automated notifications
Routing and Scheduling
PestPac has handy tools for routing and scheduling, including:
- Virtual router
- Route optimization
- Calendar dispatch view
During my demo, the sales representative demonstrated these features. Unfortunately, I had trouble following along due to the small font and ambiguous software design.
Payment Processing
WorkWave owns its own payment processor, which is fully integrated into the software. Please see the rates below.
Payment Type | Rate per transaction |
Credit cards | 3.35% + 30 cents |
ACH | $1 |
Checks | $0.85 |
You can:
- Store cards for recurring payments
- Create payment plans
- Take payments in the field
- Allow customers to pay via the customer portal
The customer portal is customizable and allows your customers to:
- Pay a bill
- View billing details
- Ask a question
Mobile Application
The mobile app has a smooth workflow packed with functionality to improve field tech efficiency. It’s also much prettier than the web application. However, WorkWave receives mixed reviews on Google Play and Apple’s App Store. Some people love the app, while others find it challenging and complain about a lack of technical support.
I asked the sales representative about the mixed reviews. He said that the negative reviews come from people who are not tech-savvy. I believe him. If your field crew has members who are not tech savvy, they will need training and support, and I would want specifics written into the contract.
The mobile app’s functionality includes:
- Timesheets
- Lead management
- Scheduling
- Creating service agreements
- Accepting payments
There is also WorkWave Route Manager, a separate app that comes with the software package.
Timesheets
Technicians can use the mobile app to:
- Clock in and out
- Request time off
- View timesheets
Lead Management
From the mobile app, you can:
- View leads
- Add leads
- Change lead status
- Add notes
To access leads, tap the lead icon in the bottom right corner.
Scheduling
You may schedule appointments on the app.
Step 1: Find the customer’s account
You can search for customers using any identifying information, such as:
- Name
- Address
- Phone number
Step 2: On the bottom of the customer’s account page, tap the orange New Work Order button.
Step 3: Fill out the scheduling form.
Step 4: On the top right corner, tap Save.
WorkWave Pricing
WorkWave has a user-based pricing model and requires additional fees for some features. The sales representative would only provide PestPac pricing. Please see the table below.
User Type | Cost Per User Per Month |
Office | $135 |
Field Tech | $29 |
However, it will cost you more if you want access to all of the software’s features. The sales representative would only provide additional fees relevant to my situation. Please see those fees in the table below and understand that there may be more features hidden behind a paywall.
Feature | Monthly Fee |
Termite inspections | $5 per tech |
Route optimization | $5 |
API connection | $109 |
Form manager | $29 |
Automate text notifications | $50 |
Online payments | $15 |
There is also a $295 onboarding fee and a 15 month contract.
After accounting for the additional fees, PestPac might be the most expensive software I have demoed. I don’t think this software is ideal for small companies. Furthermore, I would expect a modern web application and highly rated support to come with that price tag. WorkWave falls short.
But remember that PestPac is an industry leader that boasts high-profile clients such as Terminix and Massey. So I suspect they have superior offerings for large corporate accounts.
WorkWave User Reviews
Well put together: “Well put together and easy to follow and use. Would change a couple small things to better help my use for it, but that’s not an issue if change would affect someone else.” – Ryan Sample from Google Play
Don’t sign monthly contracts: “Waste of money and time — Once again, I knew initially that signing a 15 month contract could go sideways with a large corporation. I really regret paying them $2250 plus tax for a service I did not use or couldn’t get any support for at all.” – Tim B. from Capterra
Easy to use: “I have been in the industry for 40 years and used a variety of different systems. This is undoubtedly the strongest I have used to date. It is extremely functional, easy to train on, and allows for all of our employees to use a mobile system.” – David H. from Capterra
Glitchy: “Few problems with this version – lack of text scaling or interpolation of more than 5 lines per work order means your info will glitch and either squeeze in the text immediately below that last thing listed or literally on top of it.” – GlideOn from Apple App Store
Fast workflow: “I like the flow within the program, and the fact that it is web-based eliminates a lot of downtime that you might experience from a local network program.” – Christopher C. from Capterra
Could be less steps: “I love the scheduling and the ability to see the appointments and teams by miles! I dislike how there are often too many steps to get to one change. I think it could be simplified.” – Jennifer M. from g2
Pros and Cons of WorkWave
Even with the high price and archaic web design, WorkWave has many satisfied customers. However, others find the software difficult to use and complain about inadequate support.
Pros | Cons |
✓ Feature-rich ✓ 40 year old company ✓ Well-designed mobile app ✓ Well-designed customer portal | ✗ Expensive ✗ A lot of additional fees ✗ Web app isn’t fully responsive ✗ Mandatory contract ✗ Outdated web app design ✗ Steep learning curve ✗ Poor customer service representative |
Alternatives to WorkWave
WorkWave is one of many options for field service software. The right software for you depends on your company size, budget, tech-savviness, and desired features. Here are some popular alternatives:
- FieldRoutes: FieldRoutes is high-end, feature-rich field management software that offers PestRoutes to pest control companies.
- Service Autopilot: Service Autopilot offers many features to streamline your field service business. The starting price is affordable, but it gets expensive as you add features.
- Briostack: Briostack is a cloud-based pest control management software with many features and excellent customer support.
- Pocomos: Pocomos is a highly rated pest control management software offered at a competitive price. It isn’t as fancy as some higher-priced solutions, but it gets the job done.
- GorillaDesk: GorillaDesk is best known for pest control management but provides solutions for various field service industries.
There are also several free software solutions.
Our Verdict
WorkWave is feature-packed and trusted by many large companies. However, although some users love the software, other customers’ experiences weren’t great. The negative reviews complain about software bugs, complexity, and lack of support. Therefore, I would be hesitant to sign a contract.
The mobile app has a beautiful design and smooth workflow, but the web application looks like it came from the 1990s. You would think WorkWave could afford a modern design with the high prices they charge.
In summary, I think this software is best suited for large companies. Smaller businesses can find a more affordable option with similar features, a user-friendly design, and a responsive support team.
