Lawn Care Prices in DC Vs. Outside DC

Lawn care prices around DC

Everything is not equal in the DMV.

No matter where you live within the DMV – Fairfax, Rockville, Bethesda, or D.C. – you’re lucky because we have some of the greatest neighborhoods in the country. But, specifically looking at lawn care prices, there is an enormous disparity between ZIP codes within D.C. and those outside. Simply put, D.C. prices are way pricier. We thought we’d do a little experiment to learn more.

Thumbtack Pricing Experiment

We service a lot of areas, and we find it absolutely fascinating how the same work on the same yard can cost homeowners such drastically different rates. For this experiment, we used real-time data from Thumbtack to get some common prices for a 6,000-square-foot lot. We collected different quotes from five random lawn care companies in both D.C. and Arlington through Thumbtack, and we also plugged these numbers into our own calculators for Washington, D.C., and Arlington, V. The results were about what we expected.

To explain, Washington, D.C.’s Thumbtack average price was $60 based on 5 bids, and Arlington’s average price was $40. This means there was a 50% increase in price simply by living in the city limits of the district. Our LawnStarter generated prices showed us similar results. We got $54 for Washington, D.C., and $42 for Arlington. Of course, we could be very specific with our generator, relying solely on the numbers, where some lawn care companies with less technological capabilities might be throwing out ballpark figures. Still there was a clear disparity between D.C. and only a short distance away in Arlington.

Why Is DC Lawn Care So Much Pricier?

Though it is a lot of speculation, there are a few reasons that come to mind when explaining why the district is so much more expensive than ZIP codes only a few miles away. The first is parking. It’s a simple logistical feat, but it’s incredibly difficult to park a fleet of big lawn care trucks within the city limits. For this reason alone, and the inconvenience it represents, D.C. prices are higher. There is also the fact that a small lawn care business is a pretty illiquid asset, so the market price is determined by what people are willing to pay. Simply put, people in D.C. have more money and they’re willing to pay more.

Either way, we’re trying to keep prices as low as possible in all of service areas, no matter the ZIP code. We think you’ll be impressed by our D.C. lawn care prices as well as our Fairfax prices, so if you’re in the area, give our quote generator a spin.
