Although some folks in Music City might cringe at the thought, Rebecca West, head of the ScaleUp Nashville business program, expresses what she says is a common sentiment: Nashville, TN, is “the next Atlanta.”
On the other hand, publishing mogul Steve Forbes says Nashville shouldn’t keep Atlanta in its sights.
“I think the key is if you have [the] environment where social trust can flourish, where people who want to get ahead can flourish, you don’t have to worry about Atlanta, Charlotte or anybody else,” Forbes told a Nashville journalist in 2015. “You’ll become a magnet.”
Although Nashville might not be worried about Atlanta, we couldn’t resist seeing how two of the largest cities in the South stack up against each other. So we dug up 24 ranking factors -- such as unemployment rate and median home sale price -- and produced a side-by-side comparison of Nashville and Atlanta. The infographic below contains our findings.
