Spring

• Lawn Care: Increase mowing to once or twice a week by May.
• Shrub Pruning: Start pruning after the last frost. Remove frost-damaged branches. Wait to prune flowering plants until they’re finished blooming.
• Fencing: Install or repair fencing in early spring to avoid the rush. You can paint or stain as long as there is no rain in the forecast.
• Irrigation: Follow current watering restrictions. If you can, water desert plants once or twice a month. Water other plants once every week or two. 
• Hardscaping: Convert to a xeriscape to save water. If you want a water conservation rebate, only permeable hardscaping (such as pavers, gravel, and crushed rock) counts. 
• Mulch: Apply before the summer heat arrives.
• Planting: Start planting flowers, shrubs, and produce in March.

Summer

• Lawn Care: Mow once or twice a week. If your grass is dormant, don’t mow it.
• Irrigation: Drought adapted plants need water anywhere between once a week or once a month. High water use plants need water every week or every couple of days.

Fall

• Lawn Care: Mow once a week until September, then mow as needed.
• Leaf Cleanup: Use a rake, mulching mower, or a leaf blower to clear your yard. To make things easier, book leaf removal service.
• Landscape Lighting: Repair, replace, or add new lights to prepare for winter.
• Fencing: Install or repair fencing now once the summer rush is over.
• Irrigation: Your watering schedule should be similar to spring.
• Planting: Plant frost-tolerant trees, flowers, and produce between September and early November.

Winter

• Lawn Care: Mow once or twice a month.
• Shrub Pruning: Start pruning in February at the earliest. Don’t prune frost-sensitive plants.
• Irrigation: Water drought-tolerant plants once a month. Water thistier plants every week or two.
