Maintaining your Emerald City yard is a four-seasons job. Don’t miss your chance to plant or revamp your outdoor space — follow this Seattle landscaping calendar for the best results.

Spring

Cleanup: Clear away winter debris in March or after snow has melted.
Lawn Care: Mow twice a month starting in March. Increase to weekly mowing in April.
Planting: Plant trees in late March, produce between March and May, grass seed in April or May, and flowers in April.
Shrub Pruning: Prune in March. Prune flowering plants after they’re done blooming.
Mulch: Refresh or add new mulch in April or May. Several places offer free wood chips.
Irrigation: Check your irrigation system for winter damage.
Hardscaping: Start projects like patios, pavers, porches, or trellises.

Summer

Lawn Care: Keep mowing if you’re irrigating.
Planting: Plant ground covers in early summer. Plant fall produce in July or August.
Irrigation: Water consistently and deeply to counter the dry weather.
Hardscaping: Wrap up projects in early summer before it’s too hot or dry.

Fall
